Plan the whole trip, not just your pack

lighterpack stops at a single list. On PMB your whole group shares one trip: split the tent, stove, and food across everyone, then see exactly who's carrying what so no one's pack quietly balloons.

John Muir Trail

A three-week thru-hike of the John Muir Trail, with the shared gear split so every pack stays light.

What you get when you switch

The features ultralight planners ask for, finally in one place.

Optional swaps

Mark items as optional to plan seasonal pack variations off a single source-of-truth list. No more cloning the whole pack to swap a shelter.

A shakedown you can read

Pack breakdown by type and category with worn, base, and consumable weight in one screen. Built so the screenshot is what you post.

Built mobile-first

Edit weights, reorder items, and swap categories from a phone on the trail. The full pack view fits a single screen.

How the import works

Thirty seconds from a lighterpack URL to a PMB pack you can edit.

  1. Step 1

    Paste your lighterpack URL

Open the importer and paste the share URL you would normally drop in a Reddit shakedown.

  2. Step 2

    We import every row

Categories, items, weights, and worn / consumable flags all come over in one pass.

  3. Step 3

    Edit, share, repeat

Your new pack is editable immediately and shareable as a clean image. No account required to start.

Questions about switching

Is Plan My Backpack free?
Toggle answer
Yes. Planning, sharing, and importing are free.
How do I import my lighterpack list?
Toggle answer
Paste your lighterpack URL into the importer. We pull every category, item, weight, and the worn / consumable flags into a new pack you own immediately.
Do I need an account?
Toggle answer
No. You can create or import a pack as a guest, and the shareable URL works immediately. Your pack lives on a cookie for 30 days of inactivity; we show a banner with the remaining time as the deadline approaches, and you can claim it into a permanent account at any point before then. (Note: lighterpack saves anonymous packs only to your local computer and requires an account before you can share a link.)
Will my lighterpack URL still work after I migrate?
Toggle answer
Yes. PMB does not touch your lighterpack account. Your original URL keeps working as long as lighterpack does. Most users keep both live for a while during the switch.
Can I export my data?
Toggle answer
Yes. Every PMB pack has an Export CSV option in the Options menu that downloads the same column set the importer reads, so a copy of your data lives outside the app at all times.
Does PMB have ads?
Toggle answer
No. PMB does not run display advertising. Affiliate links to retailers are disclosed inline and only appear on gear rows we have curated.
